Overview
EMUL8 is a film emulation set built by filmmakers Christian Maté Grab and Eric Lenz for DaVinci Resolve Studio and Final Cut Pro. It ships 15 looks modeled on Kodak and Fujifilm stocks, plus the parts that sell a film image: halation, bloom, film grain scalable from 8mm to 65mm, chromatic aberration, and color density control. A camera-matching step lets you feed it any Log profile so the look sits on a correct starting point.
Instead of a heavy plugin, EMUL8 runs as DCTLs and PowerGrades, which is why grain and halation stay in real time during playback rather than dropping frames. It is a one-time $196 with lifetime updates and no subscription. There is no trial, so you judge it from the demo reel before buying. Studio only, macOS and Windows.
EMUL8 is featured in our comparisons The Best Free Alternative to Dehancer for DaVinci Resolve, Best Film Emulation & Grain Plugins for DaVinci Resolve (2026) and Best Color Grading Plugins for DaVinci Resolve.

Pros
- Blazing fast real-time performance, even with grain and halation enabled
- Clean, intuitive interface without overwhelming parameters
- One-time payment with lifetime updates and no subscription
- Works with any camera and Log profile
Cons
- Requires DaVinci Resolve Studio (not compatible with Free version)
- Fewer film stocks than Dehancer (15 vs 60+)
- No free trial available
Verdict
EMUL8 trades stock count for speed: 15 looks instead of Dehancer's 60+, but real-time playback even with grain and halation on. If raw stock variety matters more to you than speed, Dehancer's library is deeper. If you want something fast that looks good without fighting playback lag, EMUL8's narrower catalog is the trade worth making. No trial though, so you're buying on the demo reel.
