Overview

Dehancer Film is an OFX plugin, not a LUT. It ships with 60+ film profiles (colour negative, black and white, and print stocks) and 130+ camera log profiles, so it reads Log footage from S-Log3, V-Log, Blackmagic RAW, and other formats before a film stock is applied. Each look lives on its own node, and the stock, grain, halation, and bloom stay adjustable shot by shot after the fact, unlike a baked-in LUT.

The film profiles are built from scans of real stock rather than a colourist's approximation of one. Dehancer tested this directly: they shot the same scene on Kodak Vision3 500T 16mm film and on three digital cameras (a Blackmagic Pocket 6K, a Red Epic, and a Kinefinity Mavo LF), then matched the digital footage to the film using Dehancer alone. The published comparison holds up; the digital plates and the film plate are hard to tell apart.

Grain, halation, and bloom are modeled as physical processes rather than texture overlays. Grain density shifts with exposure the way negative grain does, denser in shadows and finer in highlights. Halation reproduces the warm red halo that bleeds around bright highlights when light passes through a film's anti-halation layer. Bloom adds a softer, cooler glow around light sources, useful for night exteriors and practicals.

Dehancer supports DaVinci Wide Gamut and ACES pipelines directly, so it drops into a colour-managed Resolve project without extra conversion nodes. A built-in LUT Generator can bake a graded look into a portable LUT for delivery or for editors working off a proxy, though the plugin is built around per-shot adjustment rather than a one-LUT-fits-all approach.

Dehancer sells through both subscription and lifetime licensing, with a free trial before buying. It runs on DaVinci Resolve 19 and newer, on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and works with both Resolve Studio and the free version.
