Döngü

Döngü, the Turkish word for loop, follows a sleeper through a chain of waking moments that never quite settle. A figure wakes at the foot of a tree, somewhere in the valleys of Cappadocia. She walks, lies back down, wakes again under the same branches. The loop repeats, with small shifts the viewer is left to count.

The film does not try to mark the boundary between the dream and what sits outside it. Each waking looks like the last. Some are slightly shorter, some slightly stranger, and the question of which version is the surface is left open.

Shot with a small kit and a single prime lens, Döngü uses the colours that came directly out of the camera body. There is no log workflow and no heavy grade. The film works inside the limits of an in-camera recipe, treating the look of the rushes as the final look.
